The Routines of Successful Interim Executives

How do successful interim executives do it all? It all begins with a healthy routine from the minute they wake up to the moment they fall asleep.

Don’t start the day with your phone

“Your morning sets up the success of your day. So many people wake up and immediately check text messages, emails, and social media. I use my first hour awake for my morning routine of breakfast and meditation to prepare myself,” says American businesswoman Caroline Ghosn.

It’s tempting to jump right into work the minute you open your eyes. While it instantly gets you up to speed with the office, it’s not a great way to start the day. You should use the first hour of the day to focus on yourself and your family. If you read an email before you indulge in your morning activities, you’ll be in two minds. Cooking breakfast while thinking about a work issue will leave you in a state where you won’t be able to give total attention to either.

Successful interim executives set fixed waking and sleeping times

Sleeping a healthy amount of hours is important for any person. But it is especially important for executives in high-stress environments. It helps them stay alert, make better decisions and work quickly. The National Sleep Foundation recommends adults (ages 18-64) get 7-9 hours of sleep per day.

The best way to get your hours in is to sleep on time. Make it a point to sleep at 8 or 9 PM in order to get at least 8 hours of sleep and an early morning to start off your routine. Waking up early is a chief ingredient many successful businessmen and world leaders have in common. It gives you the time to prepare for the day and highly-productive hours to complete most of your to-do list.
